Stars shone above them in mute approval, casting the faintest of glows over the over the pair sitting entwined one wrapped…completely, protectively, possessively…around the other. The simple gift of time and quiet and one another was a balm to weary souls, exhausted hearts…
Jack looked softly upon his lover's dozing form, the fine-boned face that had so recently possessed his mouth, his body, his soul….
It was a willing possession, given freely one to the other…hearts traded into one another's keeping by two strong people who had nearly forgotten what it was to feel this basic and yet unique 'need'. Together they remembered, together became one, together became more…
Jack sighed. Time and life were not generally so kind to them, fleeting moments had to be carved from other - bigger - things. Jack's arms tightened gently around the precious form he held. He had no desire to wake his exhausted lover who so rarely succumbed to true sleep…always too busy, too dedicated to getting the job done.
'Like me,' Jack thought wryly, 'and yet…not. At least I know when to quit and give in to rest before the caffeine replaces the majority of my blood cells and I'm so keyed up I can't sleep at all when the job's finally done.' Jack smiled, laughing inwardly as he dropped a feather-light kiss on the smooth forehead…at last unwrinkled by too many thoughts…lying on his chest.
He looked upward at the twinkling jewels above, knowing they understood…and offered this night as proof. They'd come out here together, one so jittery from too little sleep for too long a time he shook with reaction, the other so worried he'd kidnapped his lover and escaped into the night.
Blankets and food had been prepared much earlier, a fire laid but never lit….the fire between them had warmed far better than any impotent physical flame could ever do…
Searing, branding, dueling sparks that sought only to ignite the other further, faster…
Even now the heat spread over Jack at the memory, a shudder of pleasure nearly as all-consuming as their lovemaking had been. Jack found himself molding his body around the dear form within his embrace…seeking closeness beyond what was already there…wishing beyond reality to meld them together as the one perfect love they were…
So dear, so real, so totally unexpected….
Life had given him no warning, no preparation, no *hope* of ever finding something so amazing it made his heart jump at the depth and scope of this 'love' that had become so intrinsically a part of him he ached at the mere thought of its absence…
'I am one lucky bastard…' Jack thought, not for the first time.
"This is true love. You think that happens every day?" The line from some god-awful movie forced itself up into his thoughts. 'Dumb movie…great line.'
It *didn't* happen everyday…it didn't happen to a lot of people at all. Jack had known love before and it had been good, even great at times, but this…this was *more*, so much more than his dreams had ever allowed…
He had never known it was possible, never imagined a love so deep it almost hurt in a way so pleasurable it made him want to laugh and cry at the same time. He'd never imagined it, never felt it, never suspected it…which made it all the sweeter for him knowing he'd found that indefinable 'it' embodied in the precious person just starting to stir in his arms, hand moving to seek Jack's heart…long sensitive, oh so knowing fingers…splaying over it as if somehow sensing the emotions threatening to burst it from its cage.
A cheek nestled itself more securely in the embrace, a soft sigh of contentment sending thrills of renewed desire straight to Jack's soul…
Jack cupped a hand around the restless head, burrowing his own fingers into the warmth of the thick hair…reassuring, comforting, encouraging it back into sleep…
"Love you, Jack…" A small breath of sound, conveying so much more than the simple words were capable of.
Jack let his arms draw his lover impossibly closer, as if they might…literally…become one….
With a voice edged by tears and feelings as vast as the star field expanding above them, Jack kissed the sandy brown head again…
"Love you too," he whispered, sending a silent thank you upward to the stars joyfully sharing and conspiring in this blessed secret with him. "Love you, too, Daniel…"
